Using infinitive verbs to form adverbs

The infinitive form of a normal verb like ‘run’ is ‘to run’. You can use an infinitive verb to form an adverb, like this:

Selma prepared to run for the ball.

The words shown in bold are an adverbial phrase that is used to tell the reader more information about the verb ‘prepared’.
