Reading up on the topic
You need to be an expert on your topic, or at least appear like you’re an expert on the issue you choose to argue. So if you choose something like gun control, you’ll need to do a fair amount of research - what it is, what are the implications, etc. The only thing worse than writing a weak argumentative essay, is writing one where you use incorrect information! One incorrect piece of information can ruin your entire essay.
