Expository essays

In an expository essay you tell the reader all about some topic. An expository essay is a factual essay - you are presenting information using facts. You don’t get all opinionated in an expository essay, and you don’t use emotional language. It is a very objective essay, not a subjective one. If the topic is a complex one that your reader might not understand, your job in an expository essay is also to explain the topic.

When you talk about a topic in an expository essay, you need to do it in a fair way. For instance, if you are writing about a controversial topic like gun control, you would need to calmly and unbiasedly present all the issues surrounding it. You would not discuss which argument is correct or which argument is more valid.
