Objective versus subjective writing

In some situations, emotional, opinionated writing is very appropriate, for instance, in the Letters to the Editor section of a newspaper. However, you often need to write in an unemotional and objective way. This can be easy or hard, depending on what you’re writing about. If it’s something you don’t really care about, then it’s relatively easy to write in an objective manner. But what if it’s something you’ve got very strong feelings about? Then it can be hard to keep your personal opinions out of your writing. Even if you think you’re writing in an unbiased manner, bias may sneak into your writing without you even realising it.
