Attention

So say you are doing a talk on violence towards women in certain countries. You might grab the audience’s attention by showing some confronting images of victims after violent attacks. Depending on your audience, it can sometimes be OK to even sicken them - it will have a greater effect. However, use your judgement - you don’t want to make anyone physically ill. Or, if it is a presentation on our financial futures, you might pull some controversial quote from a financial expert about how we’ll all be at the mercy of government handouts in 20 years time. You can go a bit over the top, because you’ve got your whole presentation ahead. You can always point out later in your oral that although the initial statement was a slight exaggeration, it got the audience thinking!
