Choosing a delivery mode
There are several different ways to deliver oral presentations. You’ve probably seen them in everyday life. If you’ve ever had to listen to an inexperienced guest or unconfident speaker, you may have been subjected to the read-from-completely-written-out-speech oral presentation technique. Perhaps a friend has asked you to help teach them about some topic you know a lot about on the bus on the way home, and you’ve had to give an impromptu presentation to them. At the end-of-year school dinner, your school captain may have given a very formal speech without notes. This is known as the memorised presentation. Perhaps someone from a university or company has come to talk to you, using palm cards occasionally but talking in a casual, flexible way. This is known as an extemporary presentation.
For most presentations, the extemporaneous delivery mode is the way to go - it’s a great mix of structure and flexibility.
