Prepositional phrase
A prepositional phrase can describe the location or position of something and give the reader extra information. It of course needs a preposition in it, like ‘on’, ‘by’ etc.:
The blanket lay on the ground.
This becomes:
The blanket lay on the ground by the large tree.
