Sense of position or direction
As well as telling the reader about the relative timing of events, you can also talk about the relative positioning of things, or their direction relative to each other.
In front of the pyramids, you can see the sphinx.
Underneath the floor, a tunnel stretched into the blackness.
North of the city, there is a lake where I’ve heard the fishing is good.
