Difference between mood and tone
The tone of a piece of writing or a movie conveys the author’s opinions, attitudes, and beliefs. The author’s tone is presented through the work by the appropriate use of vocabulary, style, and other tools.
The mood of a piece is more the general feel that the piece generates in the viewers or readers - does it make them happy, wise, or depressed?
So back to the review - the mood of a movie is the feeling the audience gets watching the film. Something like Saving Private Ryan has a sombre mood. An uplifting comedy like The Full Monty has a happy, cheerful mood, and leaves most viewers both happier and more content than before they watched it.
