Working out the meaning of words
The two easiest ways to work out what a word means are to:
look it up in a dictionary, or
ask someone what the word means.
However, these options aren’t always available to you. Sometimes you might be reading something by yourself, and not have a dictionary with you. Or you might be in an exam, where you’re not allowed to use a dictionary, and obviously you’re not allowed to ask anyone! However, there are other ways to work out the meaning of a word you don’t know.
