Gender neutral pronouns
There are two types of pronouns - gendered pronouns and gender neutral pronouns.
Gendered pronouns specify the sex of the thing that they’re representing. Gender neutral pronouns do not. Here’s a gendered pronoun:
I do not know whether he is coming to dinner.
And here’s a gender neutral pronoun:
I do not know whether they are coming to dinner.
Most of the pronouns in the English language are gender neutral. Only the third person singular pronouns are gendered - ‘he’ and ‘she’.
