Simple present tense
This is the simplest (hence ‘simple’) present tense to work with. Here’s an example sentence with a verb in the simple present tense:
I hit the ball.
This tense is used to describe what I am doing now. The simple present tense doesn’t tell the reader or listener anything about when the event started or when it ended or will end. For instance, the sentence ‘I hit the ball’ could mean that I hit the ball once with a bat. Or it could mean that I hit the ball for a few hours to get some aggression out of my system!
