Analogies

Analogies are a great way to explain a topic to someone who doesn’t know anything about it. Basically, an analogy allows you to use something the reader does know a lot about to help them understand something they don’t know anything about. For instance, a very common analogy when you’re comparing different things of different quality or ‘goodness’ is to compare them to cars:

The Geforce MX440 is the budget sedan of graphics cards - average performance, can do most things adequately and not too expensive. The X800XT, however, is the Rolls Royce of graphics cards - amazing performance, does everything at lightning fast speeds, but costs a fortune and guzzles power like a Rolls Royce guzzles fuel.

Most people would know that a Rolls Royce is a fairly prestigious, expensive car with plenty of power, so this analogy will work well for most people.
